Tong CC did not run a Saturday team in 2009 for the first time since the 1980's. During the last 20 years, Tong has played in the Dales Council League, the Leeds League and, more recently in the Leeds-West Riding League. However, it is our intention to run a team in 2010 and this will hopefully be in the Dales Council League once again.
Tong CC is a very socially orientated club and is based adjacent to the Greyhound Inn in Tong Village near Bradford. Although the ground is small, the atmosphere here makes for very enjoyable village cricket and the close proximity to the Greyhound enhances this village feel! Apart from the League team, there is also the Taverners XI made up of some of the finest athletic specimens ever to grace a cricket pitch! This team plays on most Tuesday evenings and on a number of Sundays and contributes a great deal to the running of the club as well as the profits over the bar!
If there are any players who would like to be involved in Tong CC in 2010, please get in touch either via the contacts on the website or merely by asking behind the bar in the Greyhound! We usually run net sessions during the week, starting in April but there is always much "practising" to do in the pub at all times of the year! The Dales Council League is based in and around the Leeds / Bradford area so even when playing away fixtures, players will normally be expected to return to the Greyhound at some point on a Saturday evening to discuss the finer points of the game and share a glass or two of liquid refreshment!
There are many social events held throughout the year including golf days, themed supper evenings, the Grand Ball held in the Holiday Inn Hotel and many other organised or impromptu events! You may not be the worlds best cricketer (although by 11.00 pm on Saturdays most of us are!!!) but you will enjoy the social life as long as you put into it what you hope to get out! Give it a try!!
THE 100 CLUB has now been replaced by a Lotto Bonus Ball Competition. This is being run from the Greyhound and Paul Stafford will happily sell you as many numbers as you wish!!
The Steve Holmes Golf Day was a great success. MORE DETAILS HERE
