Sat 8th July 1st Xl v Rothwell at home League Cup - Part 3 Another Saturday and another large run chase with Rothwell taking 30 fours and 16 sixes in a total of 258. This game saw the return of the prodigal son (and father!) to Tong with Paul Hudson (Huddy) back after an elongated spell (well it was for him!) at Huddersfield Lockwood. Though John (Linford) Hudson is secretary of HLCC it was good too to see him limping his way around the boundary. Reg managed to use a total of eight bowlers in an attempt to curtail the run rate, but even the spin twins of Annabelle Croft Woodhall and George (The Cat) Hornby failed to have any effect. Only Huddy with figures of 12-5-37-3 posed any problems. In an attempt to overhaul the Rothwellian total Reg and Lacky set off in fine style, reaching 50 in only the sixth over. By the time the first wicket fell in the 11th over we were well on the way. Having lost Reg for 32, Lacky quickly reached his maiden 50 for the club before being out in the 14th over with the score now on 87. Darren was now joined by Huddy, but the latter was cut short by an umpire's decision after scoring only a single. Young Shack also passed the 50 mark but the fall of regular wickets began to slow down the scoring rate, and, despite another heroic knock by George (27), the Tong innings was eventually closed with the score on 214 with still eight overs left. Ah well it was into the 'Hound' for a long post mortem. |
