Sunday 18th June 1st Xl v Cookridge in the cup at home.

Half Mast - Part 2

Saturday's high temperatures continued over to the Sunday, with a result that various bodies were strewn across the ground, making concentrating on the game particularly difficult for the fielders and those of us patrolling the boundary!

Skippy won the toss, elected to field and opened up with the heavyweights of Rule and Higgs. The latter bowling without much luck was replaced by Smiler in the 11th over. Fat Boy though had immediately got the opposition in difficulties, taking two wickets in his second over, and with Smiler taking a wicket in his first over, Tong were soon on top.

Wickets continued to fall regularly to both bowlers and they were backed-up by some excellent fielding. Only the Cookridge opener Quadas showed any signs of form but he too fell to a Butts/Smiler combination on reaching his 50.

The form of Fat Boy and Smiler meant that Lacky was only to have one over ( good job as that went for 9!) and nobody else got a bowl (thank God!).

A score of 122 should be easily gettable, even though our batting had been shaky of late. As it was it was more like a quake than a shake.

Wickets fell at a steady stream over the 33 overs of the innings with 'George' Hornby top scoring with 16 coming in at number 7.

The third club defeat of the weekend was thankfully followed by an excellent barbecue in front of the pavilion, and a chance to forget all in the haze of a glorious summer evening.
