Denby Grange vs Tong: Saturday 4th June Hepworth Cup Round 2

It was always going to be a struggle for Tong to overcome this 1st division team in the 2nd round of the Hepworth Cup, but its fair to say we were entirely outplayed and outclassed! Tong were asked to bat first and got off to a solid start with Gareth (18) cutting and pulling well off the back foot while Shaun dug in at the other end. However, Denby Grange's bowling attack was just too consistently strong and accurate, so as the pressure built Tong's batsmen were drawn into making mistakes - Gareth, Shaun and Raj all out caught going for big hits.

The middle order then buckled very quickly, Nick being most unfortunate to recieve the delivery of the day - bowled by a fantastic inswinging yorker from P Dickinson. Running in from the pavilion end, Dickinson particularly impressed for the hosts, bowling 7 overs of brisk medium pace with barely a loose delivery - 5 wickets for only 10 runs was his just reward and Tong were all out for 54.

In response, Denby Grange wanted it over and done with as quickly as possible and played attacking cricket from the start. Their opening father and son partnership of S and J Wood hit some powerful boundaries and the end came after just 7 overs with Duncan taking the only wicket. All in all, Tong were left wishing they could have put up more of a fight but determined to focus all their attention on some crucial league matches coming up.
