Saturday 6th May ~ Fairburn A v Tongans

OAP's run riot at Fairburn in emphatic win!

The 2 oldest cricketers rule the roost as the skipper becomes the only person to be fined for dropping a dolly of a catch and failing to trouble the scorer with the bat.

Dave Barratt coming close to his 80th birthday, 16 overs 6 wickets for 72 runs shows the bowlers the art of the craft and a spectacular 94 not out from Harry Naylor in damp and overcast conditions showed everybody how to bat.

The game started in fantastic conditions, and with Martin winning the toss for us (Gareth please note it is possible to win the toss) we elected to bowl. Graham opened the bowling on a very good batting pitch, and in his 2 spells bowling, couldn't get a wicket, he certainly deserved one, but 55 not out made up for it. Martins spell with accurate line and length provided one wicket, which nearly went close to compensation for a duck and dropped catch. Dave then started his 16 overs, which produced 6 wickets for only 72 runs. JT's 4 overs 1 wicket, 1 dropped catch, for 13 runs then followed (we're not counting the no ball full bungers), Graham then took the ball for his second spell, and intimidated the batters enough for Dave to clean up.

44 overs limiting Fairburn to 183, an excellent effort in the field guys, a few mistakes but only second league match of the season, showed what is to come. Well done and no injuries.

Thanks to Fairburn for a splendid tea, much appreciated, especially when they brought out a tea for Dave who was dying in the pavilion.

An excellent batting performance, as the sky became overcast and the drizzle started. Everybody batted themselves in (well most people anyway ,one 50p fine was charged), and as the run rate dropped slightly, and we started to chase to what at one point was a far away total, a run out followed. Harry and Graham then saw the ball as big as a football and opened up with a masterclass of batting. 4th wicket partnership of 103 not out.

Well done guys. To knock off a total of 183 for only 3 wickets and 7 overs remaining was outstanding.

Team spirit was in evidence, unfortunately we now expect this performance every week.
