Saturday
29th April ~ Garforth PC A v Tong
Off With
A Win!
After the washout of the previous week Tong turned up to Garforth P C
in buoyant mood. With the joining of the boys from Churwell there is renewed
optimism in the Club. Debuts we give to Adam Nicholson and Rajesh Randross
with James Mullaney returning after a brief sabbatical with Adel.
Its good to see that Buttocks luck with the coin toss had not deserted
him over the winter and promptly lost another and was requested to field.
James and the ever green Phill Taylor opened the bowling with pace at
one end and swing seam flight and guile at the other. Phill taking 2 wickets
in his spell. James was very unlucky to be peppered to the short boundary
6 times in his last 2 overs. So time for a change! On comes Kedar i'm
a spinner Ramnath and put the brakes on the scoring taking 3-48 in 12
overs bowling some unplayable deliveries and a bit of rubbish. Time at
the other end for Duncan Glitz Hawkins to bowl some real rubbish
full bungers and half trackers being the order of the day but picking
up two wickets. Finally new found death bowler Adam Nicholson bowled really
tight taking 2-19 at the end. 175 for 9 probably 30 runs more than PC
deserved but mainly thanks to some comical fielding. This being highlighted
by Jani making a vain attempt to stop an off-drive only to see the ball
disappear through his long barrier for four and the very next ball taking
a blinding running catch (ridiculous to sublime).
Tongs innings started very slowly with Butts and Jani opening, Jani missing
a straight one early to be bowled for 1 enter Kedar. A cameo 14 with some
unbelievable shots came to an inauspicious end chasing a very very very
wide one. Time for debutant Rajesh who promptly pulled his 3rd ball and
got a top edge to square leg. Through all this Butts is leaning on his
bat at the non strikers end! Nick Sowerby at 5 played an innings never
seen by him before (is he finally growing up!!!) A well constructed and
patient 33 is this really Nick. 140ish for 4 . Adam finished the game
off with a brisk 20 not out and Butts 88 not out including losing 2 match
balls in his 9 fours and 5 sixes.
A winning start to the season and just over £4 in the fines pot.
Roll on Notton next Saturday.
day we dropped and lost.
